Why I'm Kinda Done With Marvel

It's kinda a hot topic now, Marvel vs. DC, all of that jazz. Marvel as you all probably know is one of if not the most successful franchises, both in film and novelized form (and probably in Television very soon) ever. That success is due to its various universes unique to each medium. In a way marvel has somewhat melded its actors and their characters together now so that when a marvel film comes out, you don't recognize the actor playing the role so much as one of the universe's various characters. It is its own new cinema.
And I'm soooooo fucking done with it.
Now anyone who knows me would know that I am probably the most liberal filmmaker ever. Even if I don't like a certain aspect of a film I still acknowledge that my opinion really doesn't matter at all and that you should do whatever the hell you want. It's a mode of expression, you can't tell someone that they are expressing wrong because that kinda defeats the purpose of expression. In this case what I am suffering from is an absurd amount of boredom with this genre because it has gotten entirely redundant since its original inception. What is also very ironic is that the film that prompted me to write this, Avengers: Age of Ultron, ended up being one of my favorite marvel films. I really enjoyed that film, it was god damn hysterical. But it also made me notice something; I didn't care about any of the original cast anymore. The characters that I did like were the new additions like Vision (who is cool as balls), Hawkeye since he only had like 10 lines in Avengers 1 and Quicksil- shit. But Iron Man? Captain America? Thor? Those characters were simply fantastic jokes in this film but had absolutely no interesting character to them any more because they were exactly the same as their previous iterations.
Don't get my point? Here is an example; Take Iron Man, My favorite Marvel film and one of the first in the universe. This film was phenomenal because it completely broke down Tony Stark's character. In short, the plot is that Tony is an asshole but he learns that he can also not be an asshole. Its a coming of age film. It was great. Then we move on.
Iron man two actually didn't have much character development at all, it was just an overall mediocre film. I haven't seen much of three either but I'm going to go on a limb and assume that that film also had some decent development on Stark's end, though it is probably a copy of the first film in many ways. Overall 3 solid arcs of development. Tony has officially become not an asshole. But wait. Avengers is about how Tony Stark is an asshole... what? Avengers is essentially Iron man 1 again but this time Tony starts off with a bit of a soul already so that they can fit in everyone else's development. And then in Avengers 2... he's an asshole again. But rather he's an asshole in that his way of saving the world is the bad kind. EVERY god damn Iron Man iteration is just another damn spin on how he's an asshole! We took care of this in 1! Yes, I will give them that every movie does have a unique take on his dicketry, that in Ultron it's more about how he is good but his asshole side blinds him a bit, but just... neuuuuueugh! (thats my outdoor voice :]) And in regards to everything else, it's always about superheroes debating over whether or not the humans are weak or strong, even though 90% of the humans we see in these films are bystanders running around screaming. Also, there is a romance. Also, there are random references to the other films in the universe that you need to watch to get. Also, there will be a Stan Lee cameo somewhere but its no longer a where's waldo search because it's always in your face (seriously, he should have been a prisoner in Guradians of the Galaxy instead). Also, Thanos will be referenced so many times that the end credits scene in Avengers 2 will be absolutely pointless. Oh, also there is a 95% chance of their being an after credits scene, something that I actually enjoy still. Also, if you are a post Avengers Marvel Movie, you will be super campy and referency and have little to no unique thematic writing. You will be purely a zeitgeist film made to reflect geopolitics as seen from someone exposed to Fox news daily, AKA “We are good because the world needs us and humanity and save the pandas and shit and they are bad because they have a dark color pallet and no anthropomorphic adorable characters. And lastly the film will have a high budget but have a shocking mix of decent and absolutely terrible CGI(*cough cough* Scarlet Witch). That is pretty much marvel.
I was actually pleasantly surprised when Daredevil came out because it was the most unique superhero thing to come out in years. It was dark, gritty, and pretty unpredictable. I think this is what Marvel should be like. Not gritty, but unpredictable. And I don't mean in their humor either. Ant Man is coming out now, right? I'll give it a fair chance, but I know it will be super cliché. It will have a witty male lead who has a fairly tacked in almost badass but limited female tutor and it will be really self aware and it will be about love and humanity and it will have an enemy who has a distorted view of whatever the protagonist is against and the ants will be the new Groot or some crap.
Not that I dislike Groot. I liked guardians when I saw it in theaters. It was a nice change from the norm even though it really wasn't. It was more of a fun night out with friends rather than a cinema experience. It really was just avengers and star wars mixed together with a catchy music track. But it was funny. Oh yea, side rant. Why the hell is it that now all the music from guardians is almost being considered and original soundtrack? Like when you hear a song from it people are like “OOH! Guardians!” You can even buy the awesome mix, the only difference being that it has a different case. Whatever.
What do you even take away from this nonsense? Well it's that Marvel better make its new characters that it will be introducing soon at least somewhat unique or I'm gonna... just not go and see them really. I don't care honestly, the whole point in writing this was just to really straighten out my thoughts in my head but I might as well put it up as content. Marvel isn't a big deal, its just irritating because it is so much harder now to find content that I am super interested in because it's all superhero films that anyone talks about now. I like superheroes, I'm just really tired of them. Go save someone else please, and I'll go watch my artsy depressing drama films that nobody but me watches because I'm strange.
